- Acting for an appellant representing retrenched staff in the Supreme Court in an appeal where the Supreme Court being the apex Court made several orders in favor of the appellant among which were the increase of interest payable on terminal benefits from 10% to 20%. The appeal was substantially successful.
- Acting for the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce & Industry in an appeal in the Court of Appeal against Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), the Regulator of all companies registered or incorporated in Uganda, challenging High Court’s decision allowing URSB to join as co-petitioner to a company members’ petition. The appeal was successful.
- Acting for a land owner whose land measuring approx. 500 acres was compulsorily acquired by the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) prior to compensation. The suit was successful.
- Acting for a confidential client in opposing an application in which his co-parent sought to have the sole custody of their minor biological child of tender years. The Court re-emphasized the recent internationally recognized position of the law on custody which is to the effect that a child is entitled to the joint custody of both parents save for the most extreme circumstances (which were listed). The application was successfully opposed.
- Acting for Allied Graphics Systems U Ltd in a judicial review application where the Uganda Investment Authority had cancelled an applicant’s lease who had not substantially complied with development clauses in a lease agreement. The applicant sought to have the cancellation decision set aside and the re-allocation of the suit land to our client canceled. The application was successfully opposed.
- Acting for Johnston Group Limited in an appeal against EcoBank Uganda Limited challenging an award of instruction fees in garnishee proceedings and in respect to a dispute by both parties on who was entitled to the amount of approximately UGX 780,000,00 (approximately USD 215,000). The appeal was successful.
- Acting for Kookee Enterprises Limited in opposing a Bankruptcy petition instituted against it by Techpak Kenya Limited and in respect of an alleged unpaid debt of approximately USD 65,000. The petition was successfully opposed.
- Second-chair for Rubis Energy Uganda Limited (formerly Kobil Uganda Limited) in a suit for recovery of approx. USD 1,7000,000 from Electromaxx Uganda Limited, a thermal power distributor. The debt was fully collected/recovered.
- Second-chair for Afriland First Bank Uganda Limited in its opposition to a company law petition filed against it by a 15% shareholder claiming that the affairs of the company were being run in a manner that is oppressive, prejudicial and unfair to them. The shareholder also sought for the High Court to allow him sell his shares worth over Ugx 5,150,000,000 (approximately USD 1,450,000) to a third party. The petition was successfully opposed.
- Assisted counsel for ABSA Bank Uganda Limited (Formerly Barclays Bank Uganda Limited) in the Supreme Court in an appeal against the Bank. The Court made a decision that interprets the law, together with its exceptions, on whether a defendant must file and serve their defence within the fifteen day statutory period. The appeal was successfully opposed.
- Acting for Freight Forwarders Kenya Limited in a series of an ongoing subrogation claims filed by TransAfrica Assurance in the name of Roofings Limited against it.
- Acting for Centenary Rural Development Bank Uganda Limited, ABSA Bank Uganda Limited in several banking, debt recovery suits.
- Assisted counsel that successfully acted for United Bank for Africa Uganda Limited (UBA) in a suit filed against suit for the recovery of approximately USD. 140,000 under collection instructions executed under the Uniform Rules of Collection, URC 522.
- Acting as liquidator for private companies undertaking members’ voluntary liquidation.
- Acting as Local Counsel for Northrop Grumman with regard to due diligence and compliance checks under the United States’ Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 (FCPA) (15 U.S.C. § 78dd-1, et seq.) in the Ugandan Local Law context.
