Profile Summary
Augustine is a graduate of Makerere University with a degree in law and is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and all courts subordinate. Augustine graduated top 3 of his class at the university and was the overall best student at the Law Development Center. He holds a Masters of Law in Information Technology & Communications law from the University of Oslo in Norway. He has close to 14 years’ experience as a lawyer and has worked with some of the biggest firms in the country. Augustine is the youngest partner at Kampala Associated Advocates and heads the Intellectual Property; Employment Law and Telecommunications, Media and Technology practice teams.
He has extensive knowledge of telecommunications and technology law and has represented the leading communications sector players in numerous industry ground breaking litigation and transactions. He led the team that consulted on a gap analysis study of the ICT laws of Uganda in 2019, advised on the formation of the current telecommunications licensing framework among others and has frequently participated in various symposium and conference panels on issues relating to Technology and the Fourth Industry revolution. He has also presided over a few technology innovation competitions as a judge.
As an equity partner of Kampala Associated Advocates, Augustine is part of the senior management team responsible for strategy formation, direction and implementation. He was an integral part of the team that led the cultural transformation journey of Kampala Associated Advocates as a business and championed numerous initiatives geared at enabling the strategy position. In particular, Augustine as the partner in charge of ICT at Kampala Associated Advocates spearheaded the transformation and upgrading of the firm’s ICT platforms. His initiatives involved improving the scalability, capacity, functionality and performance to meet the modern business requirements and has seen the firm progress from principally paper based operations processes to a digitalized one based on a bespoke platform specifically created for the law firm under his guidance.
As part of his management role, Augustine has been responsible for the successful completion of the various Third Party Security Assessments for Kampala Associated Advocates as required by different Multinational Organisations/ Clients regulated under the Financial Institutions Act and has put in place systems to comply with the recent changes to the data protection obligations imposed by the new legislation.
In addition to ICT, Augustine works with the labour department as well as the Intellectual Property department. He is familiar with corporate law and represents numerous companies on matters relating to governance, human resources, and operations. He represents the firm on several boards as the engagement partner and sits on the boards of Ayo Uganda Limited, Jumo World Holdings Uganda Limited, Afriland First Bank Uganda, Wood Group PSN Uganda Limited as company secretary. In this role, Augustine renders advisory services regarding board matters corporate governance, strategy implementation, board evaluations and corporate administration.
Augustine is an ardent fan of Express Football Club and enjoys reading on various subjects. He particularly appreciates biographies of personalities who have engineered transformation of businesses, economies and societies. He is keen on mentorship and continues to champion young lawyers both in Kampala Associated Associates and beyond.
