Our History
Establishment
Established in 2001 through a visionary merger of four distinguished law firms, Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) embarked on a journey that would redefine legal excellence in Uganda. Led by trailblazing figures such as Bart Katureebe, former Attorney General turned Chief Justice, and Elly Karuhanga, a seasoned legal luminary, KAA quickly emerged as a beacon of legal prowess.
With strategic additions to its team over the years, KAA has meticulously crafted a roster of legal virtuosos unparalleled in Uganda. From the astute leadership of Sam Mayanja, who brought a wealth of experience from his tenure at the Uganda Development Bank, to the expertise of Oscar Kambona in tax matters, and the legislative acumen of Elly Karuhanga, KAA’s founding partners set the stage for success.

Further enriching its ranks are luminaries such as Peter Kabatsi, a stalwart figure in Uganda’s legal landscape, and Dr. Charles K Kalumiya, whose extensive experience with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees brings invaluable insight to the firm. Not to be overlooked is Joseph Matsiko, whose tenure in the Attorney General’s chambers has honed his expertise in civil litigation to a razor’s edge.
Merger & Partnerships
In a strategic move reflective of its commitment to evolution and sustainability, KAA welcomed five new partners in April 2017, expanding its constellation of legal stars. Among them were Jet Tumwebaze, Bruce Musinguzi, and Augustine Obilil Idoot, rising talents nurtured within the firm’s ranks, showcasing KAA’s dedication to cultivating homegrown talent. Additionally, the integration of Elison Karuhanga and Zulaika Kasajja, founders of Karuhanga, Kasajja & Company Advocates, further bolstered KAA’s formidable lineup. The firm continued on its growth plans and has added Martin Erone, an Energy and Infrastructure expert to its partnership.
