Our Debt Collection and Credit Management practice specialises in serving debt notices, negotiating debt settlement or recovery options. We also provide legal action for recoveries and assist in negotiations with the Uganda Revenue Authority on write-offs for debts that cannot be recovered.
The practice also assists in the collection of VAT refunds from authorities in respect of unrecoverable debts. We have had considerable success in the management of a multi-billion Uganda Shilling receivables portfolio for Barclays Bank Uganda Limited, Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited and UMEME Limited, and have assisted Civil Aviation Authority and Nile Breweries Limited in bringing down their respective debt recovery portfolios. We are also currently engaged in the recovery of debts on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Limited worth USD 18,000,000 and UGX 11,000,000,000/= (United States Dollars Eighteen Million Only and Uganda Shillings Eleven Billion Only), respectively.
We are handling the debt collection of delinquent account holders for UMEME. The team has so far collected upwards of UGX. 14,000,000,000 (Uganda Shillings Fourteen Billion Only), as well as collecting over UGX 1,500,000,000 (Uganda Shillings One Billion Five Hundred Million Only) out of an assigned portfolio of UGX 3,000,000,000 (Uganda Shillings Three Billion Only) from various unsecured loan defaulters of Barclays Bank Uganda Limited.
